Medicare and the ADP

It’s that time of year again when Medicare recipients can leave their MAPD plans and return to Original Medicare and a drug plan. This is the last year because as of 2019, CMS is reinstating the Open Enrollment Period from January 1st through March 31st. How that all plays out is anyone’s guess because the details are still under consideration so we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, you have about 6 weeks to leave your current Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare and add a drug plan for 2018. It’s also the time that you choose a Medicare Supplement in addition to Original Medicare. Remember, if you are past the 6 months of open enrollment when you first take Part B, you will have to qualify medically for the supplement. That also means you can be declined.

If it were me making the decision, I’d buy the supplement first, get it approved and then leave your MAPD plan and also get a separate drug plan. You only have 6 weeks so it makes sense to get it completed as soon as possible. In the event you don’t get approved, you just stay on the MAPD plan. Very simple but not too many seniors are aware this can be done between January 1st and February 14th.

I’s also call an independent broker to get their advice on the best plan for you. Please remember that you don’t any more for the insurance than buying it yourself or through an insurance company however, the advice you get is unsurpassed so take advantage of using a broker.

I’m available if you need me. See my contact information listed below.
